Graduating College Debt Free

When Makayla Trivett walks across the stage in December, she will cross the stage knowing that she does not have loads of student debt waiting for her like many of her peers crossing with her. In fact, she will have the privilege of walking across the stage knowing that she has NO student debt waiting for her.

Graduating debt free was always Makayla's goal and although she knew that she would have have the help of her parents, she was still determined to achieve it.

Makayla worked full time every summer. During the fall, when she wasn't spending time in library studying, Makayla nannied for a special needs child to make some extra money.

Kresge Library is located on the campus of Oakland University.

At the time, Makayla wondered if she would regret her decision to work during her spare time instead of spending time with her friends, but looking back now Makayla thinks she made the right decision.

"I used to wonder if I should have gone out more, but now it is such a relief," Makayla said.

Following graduation Makayla hopes to immediately begin teaching, as she will be graduating with a Bachelor's of education in Language Arts and Elementary Education with an endorsement in Early Childhood Education.

Makayla Trivett dreams of the day she will get to write her name on the board for her own classroom on October 21, 2017 at Oakland University. Makayla would like to teach elementary school following graduation in December.

Although Makayla does not have a job lined up quite yet, she hopes to find a job out of state.

"I would love to move somewhere that isn't Michigan. I would really love to teach over seas in countries that are struggling. That is the ultimate dream," Trivett explains.

Upon Graduating Makayla hopes to send thank you cards to all of her teachers that have impacted her life throughout the years.
